Governor Mark Gordon signed a new executive order today in Saratoga, Wyoming, establishing updated conservation guidelines for greater sage-grouse management.
Executive Order 2026-007 replaces the previous 2019-003 order. The order establishes a 5% surface disturbance cap and seasonal restrictions in Core Areas, according to the governor's office. The guidelines incentivize economic development outside critical habitats while respecting existing legal rights.
Gordon said Wyoming remains committed to applying science-based approaches to sage-grouse conservation. "Wyoming remains a leader in sage-grouse conservation, and our Core Area Protection strategy has proven its foresight over multiple administrations as an effective, state-led model," Gordon said.
According to the state, the updated order protects 90% of Wyoming's sage-grouse population.
