The Trump Administration announced a $50 million investment in Connecticut's rural hospitals through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), intended to help four rural hospital systems modernize facilities, expand service capacity, and stabilize healthcare infrastructure.
According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the funding will support hospitals in upgrading equipment, renovating facilities, and enhancing care delivery to ensure rural residents can access treatment locally. Connecticut's RHTP strategy focuses on aligning hospital services with community needs and reducing gaps in access to care.
The state plans to direct the funding toward improving prevention services, including expanded primary care and chronic disease management; advancing technology such as telehealth and AI-enabled monitoring; strengthening the rural health workforce through recruitment and training; and supporting sustainable care delivery through payment and delivery reforms.
This investment builds on $7 million previously announced to support prevention and physical activity in rural Connecticut communities. The funding was made available through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which allocated $50 billion nationally to help states transform rural healthcare delivery.
