Governor Gretchen Whitmer is on a mission to Taiwan to attract investment in Michigan's semiconductor, drone, and robotics industries. The visit, her third since 2023, includes meetings with companies considering investments and government leaders in Taipei and Taichung City.

Taiwanese investment in Michigan has grown significantly. Since January 2019, Taiwanese companies have invested $249.65 million in Michigan, creating 461 direct jobs. Recent investors include Delta Electronics, YCM, Sunspring Metal, and Logic Solutions.

Whitmer's engagement with Taiwan began in September 2023, when she became the first Michigan governor to visit the island. During her March 2024 return, she participated in a semiconductor roundtable and met with Taiwanese companies and government leaders. Michigan established the Taiwan Office that month to serve as a permanent presence for investment promotion. The 2024 mission included announcements of investments by Tung Thih Electronics, Sumeeko, and TYC Americas in Michigan.
