Pittsburgh has been awarded over $1.2 million in state grants to purchase a new fire truck and stabilize abandoned properties for housing redevelopment, Mayor Corey O'Connor announced.

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development awarded $800,000 through the Statewide Local Share Account to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire for a new pumper truck to modernize the city's fleet. An additional $450,000 from the same account went to the Pittsburgh Land Bank to stabilize properties in Hilltop neighborhoods for redevelopment into housing.

"This is a huge win for the City and we're grateful to the Senators and the State for this investment in our communities," Mayor O'Connor said.

City Councilmember Bob Charland said the Hilltop funding addresses long-standing disinvestment. "This vital funding is an essential first step toward reversing neglect in my hilltop neighborhoods, hopefully bringing long overdue investment and new life to this part of our city," Charland said.

The grants come from the Statewide Local Share Account, which distributes funds derived from gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
