Seven foreign nationals have been arrested on charges related to illegal voting activity in the 2024 general election, according to the Texas Attorney General's office.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas indicted the individuals following investigations by the Texas Attorney General, the U.S. Attorney's Office, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations.
The charges include: Carlos Salas Barrios, a Mexican citizen, charged with voting by an alien; Joshua Nmelichukwu Akpom, a Nigerian national, charged with false statements in relation to naturalization; and Helen Mayen Adams, a Nigerian national; Khalwinder Singh Bhengura, an Indian citizen; Moises Anwar Arellano-Alba, a Mexican citizen; Celestin Kuasa Katubadi, a national of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and Rocio Thrasher, a Mexican citizen—all charged with voting by an alien and false statements of citizenship in order to register to vote.
According to Attorney General Ken Paxton, "Foreign influence has no place in American elections. I will not tolerate attempts to rig elections and silence the will of American citizens and voters. I will continue to fight to ensure that Texas has free and fair elections."
