Texas will observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with flags at half-staff, Governor Greg Abbott announced.

The governor directed that United States and Texas flags across the state fly at half-staff on the anniversary date to honor the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in New York City, Washington, D.C., and a field in Pennsylvania.

Abbott's statement acknowledged first responders and passengers aboard Flight 93 who died when they sought to prevent further attacks. "First responders ran toward the fire, and the brave passengers of Flight 93 made the ultimate sacrifice that saved the lives of others," he said.
