Texas Comptroller Don Huffines announced that local governments will receive $1.3 billion in sales tax allocations for September, a 7.6% increase compared to September 2025. The allocations were based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.

Cities received $816.5 million, up 8.1% from September 2025. Transit systems received $267.8 million, up 5.6%, counties received $81.6 million, up 4.7%, and special purpose districts received $135.8 million, up 10.5%.

Year-to-date allocations showed consistent growth, with total sales tax distributed up 6.8% compared to the same period in 2025.

Huffines suggested that local governments could use the increased revenue to reduce property taxes. "Lower property taxes are one of the most effective ways to make housing more affordable and ease the financial burden Texans face with gas, groceries, and other everyday costs," the comptroller said.
