Boulder County eased fire restrictions for unincorporated areas effective September 9, based on improved weather conditions and increased firefighting resources. The western mountain region was downgraded to Stage 1 restrictions, while the eastern plains area had all fire restrictions fully rescinded, county officials said.
Stage 1 restrictions in Western Boulder County prohibit activities including campfires, charcoal grills, fireworks, recreational shooting, and operation of chainsaws and other gas-powered equipment. The county said exceptions remain for certain activities such as fires on private property using gas or pressurized fuel in cleared areas, and some outdoor recreational uses.
The restrictions apply only to unincorporated Boulder County and do not affect restrictions in municipalities, state areas, or federal lands. Violations are civil infractions with penalties of $500 for a first offense, $750 for a second, and $1,000 for third or subsequent violations. County officials emphasized that residents should continue to exercise caution with any activity that could ignite a wildfire.
