Gov. Greg Abbott requested a federal disaster declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration for South-Central Texas communities that suffered damage from severe storms in August. The declaration, if approved, would make low-interest disaster loans available to Bexar County and its neighboring counties.

The SBA assistance would support qualified homeowners and business owners whose properties sustained damage from the storms, including damage caused by tornadoes, thunderstorms, hail, and straight-line winds, according to Abbott's office.

The governor's request followed an analysis of damage by local, state, and federal officials showing that Bexar County meets the federally required threshold for SBA aid. State officials also reviewed damage reports submitted by residents through the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) surveys.

Residents who sustained storm damage can report it online at damage.tdem.texas.gov.
