Federal immigration authorities have lodged a detainer for a man arrested in connection with a fatal crash in Ohio that killed 23-year-old Cameron Lyon.
The crash occurred on September 6 on Route 33 in Fairfield County. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a vehicle traveling eastbound crossed into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming car, killing Lyon. His fiancée was severely injured in the collision.
The suspect, Alvaro Uribe-Gonzalez, is an illegal alien from Mexico, according to the Department of Homeland Security. He has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged the detainer with the Fairfield County Jail the day after the arrest, requesting that local authorities hold him pending removal proceedings.
Uribe-Gonzalez illegally entered the United States through Texas in January 2020 and was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol. A Department of Justice immigration judge issued a final removal order on January 11, 2020, and the Trump Administration deported him on April 14, 2020. He later illegally re-entered the United States at an unknown date and location, which constitutes a felony, DHS officials said.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the case underscores the agency's enforcement priorities. "Deporting illegal aliens is our duty because it saves lives," Mullin said.
