Today Governor Josh Stein celebrated Hispanic and Latino Heritage Monthat the North Carolina Executive Mansion.
“The contributions of Hispanic and Latino North Carolinians cannot be contained in a month; they strengthen our state all year round,”said Governor Josh Stein.“Latino North Carolinians are contributing to our state’s business, education, culture, and public service.
They enrich our state and make it a more dynamic place to live.
This month and every month, let us celebrate the diversity that makes our state and country stronger.”
“As North Carolina's first Latino cabinet official, I encourage everyone to reflect, honor, and celebrate the culture and contributions of Latinos across North Carolina.
The Latino community is one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S., contributing $4.4 trillion to the nation’s economy,”said NC Department of Administration Secretary Gabriel J.
Esparza.“Yet these numbers only tell part of the story.
Behind the numbers are people whose determination, leadership and service continue to move our country forward.”
Latinos are one of the fastest-growing ethnic group in North Carolina, making up approximately 12% of the state’s residents and 17% of children under 18.
If taken alone, the Latino economy of the United States would represent the fourth-largest economy in the world.
TheGovernor’s Advisory Council on Latino Affairsadvises the Governor on matters affecting the Latino population in North Carolina and supports state efforts to enhance cooperation and understanding, promote opportunities, identify challenges, and recommend solutions.
