The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has extended the deadline for residents in Bexar County to apply for replacement food benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) following recent storms, according to Governor Greg Abbott.
SNAP recipients in Bexar County can apply for replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed in storms until September 17, 2026. The federal government approved the extension at the request of HHSC.
"Recent storms and power outages have made it harder for many families in Bexar County to access healthy food," HHS Executive Commissioner Stephanie Muth said. "We are grateful to our federal partners for their collaboration in making these replacement benefits available."
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Administration approved extending the reporting deadline from 10 days to 20 days, allowing more time for residents to report food loss.
Funds are added to Lone Star Cards within two business days of an approved request.
SNAP recipients can request replacement benefits by calling 2-1-1 and selecting option 7, or by visiting a local HHSC office. Beneficiaries of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) should contact their local WIC office by September 30 to request replacement benefits for food purchased with September benefits that was lost due to storms or power outages.
