Cascadia Health opened Mountain View, a new 10-bed secure residential treatment facility in Southeast Portland, in collaboration with Multnomah County and the Oregon Health Authority.
The facility, which opened September 3, offers a structured therapeutic residential setting for adults with serious mental illness. Residents may experience significant mental health symptoms, cognitive or functional disabilities, and potentially co-occurring substance use or medical conditions.
The Oregon Health Authority dedicated $5 million from House Bill 5024 (2021) for the project as part of the agency's effort to create 172 new secure residential treatment facility beds across the state.
The program is designed to provide stability, treatment and daily support while helping residents build skills for better health and greater independence. Referrals will primarily come from hospital partners, including Oregon State Hospital, as the state works to reduce wait times for patients ready for discharge from the state hospital.
The state is experiencing significant growth in licensed residential treatment beds, adding 1,660 beds to Oregon's continuum of careโa more than 45 percent increase in capacity. Of those, 1,067 are already open and serving Oregonians, with 593 more scheduled to open within the next two and a half years. The state was the primary investor in 960 of the beds.
