Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed the state's emergency management agency to request that three additional counties be added to the federal Major Disaster Declaration following July severe storms and flooding, the governor's office announced.
Damage assessments in Grimes, Live Oak, and McMullen counties exceed federal criteria for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Public Assistance program, which covers emergency work and repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.
The request adds these counties to a list of 12 counties now pending approval for FEMA Public Assistance: Atascosa, Bexar, Blanco, Brewster, Comal, Grimes, Live Oak, McMullen, Medina, Schleicher, Terrell, and Wilson.
A request for FEMA's Individual Assistance program for 30 affected counties and a separate request for additional Hazard Mitigation Grant Program resources statewide remain pending, according to the governor's office.
"As communities across Texas navigate the aftermath of severe weather and flooding, we must ensure Texans have the resources they need to recover," said Governor Abbott.
