The U.S. Coast Guard released a report on the March 26, 2024, collision between the motor vessel Dali and the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which resulted in six deaths and closed the Port of Baltimore for an extended period.
A Ports and Waterways Safety Act Board of Inquiry was established to examine the incident. The investigation evaluated risks to critical port infrastructure posed by larger commercial vessels and increased traffic.
The board conducted vulnerability assessments for 11 ports and reviewed the effectiveness of Coast Guard waterways risk assessment tools, according to the agency. The report provided recommendations to the Coast Guard Commandant.
