The Medford DMV is again offering Commercial Driver License skills testing after a five-year pause, the Oregon Department of Transportation announced.
The office at 987 Medford Center Drive is currently offering one test per week at 8:30 a.m. on Fridays. Tests can be scheduled 7 to 30 days in advance through DMV2U, and the CDL skills test fee is $145.
Staffing and inadequate parking and testing space had led to the pause. The department has addressed these constraints by using the Oregon Department of Transportation's Central Point maintenance yard at 4141 Hamrick Road for safety checks and initial maneuvers testing.
According to the department, Medford is the only DMV office south of Eugene administering CDL tests besides third-party companies. Prospective CDL holders must pass both a written knowledge test to obtain a Commercial Learner Permit and a three-part behind-the-wheel skills test.
As of March 16, Oregon DMV no longer issues or reinstates limited-term (non-domiciled) CDLs and CLPs. The Medford office plans to eventually hire a second trained CDL examiner to offer more appointments.
