Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut officials are promoting volunteer opportunities as part of the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, a federally recognized day marking the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
On Friday, September 11, 2026, approximately 50,000 volunteers nationwide are expected to pack millions of meals that will be distributed to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Two large-scale events will be held in Connecticut: one in Hartford at PeoplesBank Area and another in Bridgeport at The Redline Room.
Volunteers aged 18 and older are invited to join event support teams. Support team members assist with setup, checking in volunteers, supplying packing lines, boxing meals, and other tasks. No previous experience is required, and training is provided.
According to the Connecticut Office of Higher Education and Serve Connecticut, the events offer residents a way to honor those lost in the attacks by serving their communities. Additional 9/11 Day volunteer opportunities are available through 911day.org/volunteer.
