The Michigan Department of Transportation and contractor Rieth Riley Construction Co. Inc. will begin resurfacing several sections of Interstate 94 between Sawyer Road in Berrien County and Helmer Road in Calhoun County on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The $740,000 project covers 1.6 miles of highway in Berrien, Van Buren, Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties. The work includes hot-mix asphalt milling and resurfacing, along with pavement markings, and is scheduled to be completed by Friday, Nov. 13.
The project will require daily single-lane closures to provide a safe work area for crews and motorists. According to the department, the improvements will provide drivers with a safer, smoother ride and extend the life of the pavement.
Based on economic modeling, the agency said the investment is expected to directly and indirectly support six jobs.
