The Trump Administration has awarded $5.48 million in federal funding to expand healthcare career and technical education programs in Rhode Island, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The funding will support 14 Local Education Agencies and schools in developing and expanding career pathways in healthcare fields including nursing, emergency medical services, behavioral health, physical therapy, sports medicine, and biomedical sciences.
The grants are distributed as follows: $928,574 for a K-12 healthcare career pipeline with an enhanced biomedical sciences pathway and emergency medical services learning center; $1,360,343 for an on-campus physical therapy clinic program and middle school wellness initiative; $28,542 for outdoor experiential learning in wilderness first aid, public health, and emergency services; and $710,619 for Rhode Island's first Pre-Medicine career and technical education program, which will include advanced medical simulation and AI-supported clinical learning tools.
The investment is part of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which provides $50 billion nationally for rural health transformation.
