Governor Abigail Spanberger announced nearly $100 million in housing investments in Virginia's biennial budget, which also includes record funding for the state Housing Trust Fund. The Governor toured Fairfax to highlight the housing investments and met with small business owners.

The Governor visited Telestar Court, an 80-unit affordable housing development created by converting an empty office building in Fairfax. The conversion was developed by Joseph Browne Development Associates in partnership with Virginia Housing, Fairfax County, and the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Beyond the budget allocations, Spanberger signed legislation designed to reduce barriers to housing development. The bills aim to cut regulatory obstacles that prevent housing development, protect renters from hidden fees, and ease burdens on first-time homebuyers. The Governor also signed her Affordable Virginia Agenda into law, which targets reductions in housing, healthcare, and energy costs.

Virginia Housing CEO Tammy Neale said the agency was committed to supporting developments that expand access to quality, affordable homes.

In a separate meeting with small business owners in Fairfax, Spanberger discussed state support for entrepreneurs. Earlier this year, the Governor signed legislation creating a paid family and medical leave program covering more than three million workers across the state.
