Virginia is investing a record $2 billion in public education, including teacher raises and school construction funding, Gov. Abigail Spanberger said during visits to schools in the Roanoke region this week.
The state's bipartisan budget includes a 4 percent raise for teachers and support staff, and allocates $519 million in grants to fund school construction, according to the governor.
The governor visited the Roanoke County Public Schools Career and Technology Center, a new workforce development facility scheduled to open in January 2027 that will train students in more than 20 career fields. She also stopped at Eastern Montgomery Elementary School to meet with students and teachers during back-to-school season.
"Virginia's schools are vital to the growth of our children and setting them up for success in their future careers," Spanberger said. "Students should have the opportunity to pursue the path that is right for them — whether that means continuing their education or stepping directly into a great career."
Since taking office in January, the governor has signed dozens of bills into law aimed at strengthening schools and supporting teachers, according to the state.
