Dutchess County awarded $100,000 in one-time funding to nine initiatives that recognize and support veterans through its Veterans Microgrant Program, according to an announcement by County Executive Sue Serino.
The 2026 budget included the dedicated funding. The grants support projects led by nonprofits and municipal partners focused on improving services, facilities, and opportunities for veterans.
Funded projects include fishing programs operated by the Veterans Sportsmens Association in Pleasant Valley ($13,000) that will provide adaptive gear for disabled veterans; a retreat for military spouses run by Restored Heart Collective in Poughkeepsie ($12,500); kitchen renovations at American Legion Post 1302 in Poughkeepsie ($14,000); and initiatives to establish or honor Purple Heart recipients in LaGrange, Stanford, and Hyde Park.
Additional projects include equipment upgrades at American Legion Post 739 in Pleasant Valley ($13,000) and Post 203 in Beacon ($11,375), and banner installation in Union Vale ($4,125) to honor veterans.
"These microgrants truly make a difference by increasing veterans' access to services, strengthening their connections among their peers and recognizing their contributions in meaningful ways," said Dutchess County Office of Veterans Affairs Director Roche.
Serino also highlighted the county's "Veteran of Distinction" program, which honors a living local veteran each month from April through November.
