The Trump Administration announced a $120 million investment to strengthen rural health and expand access to care across Indiana through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The investment will support locally driven solutions across eight regions of the state, including reducing barriers to technology, transportation, and health education. Funding will support nutrition and counseling through community-specific pilot programs, and evidence-based interventions for chronic conditions including diabetes and obesity.
The program will strengthen maternal and infant health services by providing prenatal and postpartum navigation and maternal fetal medicine access. It will expand primary and behavioral health access by adding mobile medical and dental services and embedding clinicians in emergency departments to provide crisis response.
The funding will also help build the rural health workforce through expanded recruitment, training, and retention efforts, while creating a coordinated transportation network to help patients reach care.
CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said the investment reflects moving beyond "the failed one-size-fits-all approach" by giving rural communities tools to build stronger health systems.
The investment was enabled by the Working Families Tax Cuts Act passed by Republicans in Congress, which delivered a $50 billion investment to help states transform healthcare delivery. Governor Mike Braun called it "a major step forward in our commitment to making health care affordable and accessible for all Hoosiers."
