Daniel Kent Townsend was arrested Tuesday evening after ramming two vehicles, assaulting a driver and chasing a teenager while threatening to kill her in a series of violent crimes along North Foothills Highway in Boulder County, Colorado, authorities said.
The ramming attacks began Monday at approximately 4:21 p.m. in the 5,000 block of North Foothills Highway, when Townsend struck another vehicle, then rammed it at least four additional times, forcing the driver off the roadway before fleeing, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
Townsend then drove northbound and followed another vehicle into a driveway in the 10,000 block, where he rammed that vehicle as well. When both drivers exited their vehicles, Townsend punched the second victim in the face.
A nearby teenager witnessed the assault and began walking toward the incident. Townsend chased her on foot, threatening to kill her, before returning to his vehicle and pursuing her again. Fearing for her life, the teen hid underneath a horse trailer.
Townsend then drove into a gate on the property, causing significant damage, before his vehicle became stuck in a ditch. Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Colorado State Patrol, arrived and found Townsend attempting to flee in the disabled vehicle and took him into custody.
Townsend was arrested on multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference, vehicular assault with serious bodily injury, menacing and criminal mischief.
