The California Department of Justice announced an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 31, 2026, in San Fernando. The shooting, involving the San Fernando Police Department, resulted in one death around 11:55 PM.

The investigation is being conducted pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506, which requires the Department of Justice to independently review officer-involved shootings. The California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated the investigation following notification of the incident. Upon completion, the investigation will be turned over to the DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
