U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted a month-long enforcement operation in New York that resulted in 2,197 arrests, the Department of Homeland Security announced. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin held a press conference in New York City announcing the results of Operation Rotten Apple, which took place from July 27 through August 29.
The arrests included individuals facing charges of murder, sexual assault against minors, rape, drug trafficking, burglary, assault, and weapons possession. DHS named 10 individuals arrested during the operation, including Bogdan Detrovich Gren, charged with kidnapping, abduction resulting in death, criminal possession of a weapon, and murder; Andreas Bernal Chiquito, charged in connection with sexual conduct against a child; and Noel Celestino Lopez Martinez, charged with first-degree rape.
"Thanks to the hard work of the men and women of ICE and our federal partners, Operation Rotten Apple did what sanctuary politicians in New York City and the state of New York refuse to do: made the Empire State safer," Secretary Mullin said.
