The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is opening the recreational snook fishing season Sept. 1 across all East Coast management regions and most West Coast regions.
In the Panhandle, Big Bend, Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay regions, the season will run through Nov. 30, with a bag limit of one fish per person per day and a slot limit of 28 to 33 inches total length.
In the Southeast, Indian River Lagoon and Northeast management regions, the season will remain open through Dec. 14, with a bag limit of one fish per person per day and a slot limit of 28 to 32 inches total length.
The FWC's regional management approach uses seven metrics to evaluate the fishery, allowing the agency to respond more quickly to local concerns. The commission provides detailed information on snook regulations on its website, including annual reviews summarizing findings from each region's management assessment.
