An inmate at Boulder County Jail assaulted a deputy on August 28, causing serious bodily injury when the deputy was kicked down a stairwell.
The incident occurred as the deputy escorted the inmate up a stairwell. The inmate braced himself against the stair railing and used both feet to kick the deputy, causing him to fall off the stairs and strike his back against a cinderblock wall. The deputy broke a bone in the incident.
Jail staff responded immediately and secured the inmate in lockdown without further incident. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
The inmate, Josephis Kwamane Wade, has been charged with first-degree assault of a police officer (strong arm) and obstructing government operations. The associated Boulder County Sheriff's Office case number is 26-04103.
As in every criminal case, the charges are an accusation only, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty, according to the sheriff's office. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said it remains committed to the safety of its staff, inmates and the community.
