A woman was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, that injured a child, and is now facing immigration detention.
Yorgelis Alexandra Matos-Bravo was arrested after a child was struck by a vehicle on August 23. According to police, Matos-Bravo fled the scene but later returned and admitted to hitting the child. The boy is expected to survive his injuries.
The Charleroi Regional Police charged Matos-Bravo with aggravated assault—victim less than 13, recklessly endangering another person, accident involving damage to a vehicle or property, disorderly conduct, reckless driving, careless driving, and speeding. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer on August 26 with Washington County authorities, requesting she be held pending federal immigration proceedings.
Matos-Bravo is a Venezuelan national who entered the United States illegally through Texas in July 2022, according to the Department of Homeland Security. She had been issued a driver's license by the state of Illinois.
