Texas announced $8.367 million in grants to 35 veteran service organizations in the Central Texas region as part of the Texas Veterans Commission's Grants Across Texas Tour, according to Governor Greg Abbott's office. The funding is anticipated to provide services to more than 4,790 local veterans.
The Funds for Veterans' Assistance grants support a range of services including mental health counseling, housing assistance, financial aid, and veterans treatment courts. Recipients include organizations such as Austin Habitat for Humanity, the Austin Dog Alliance, and numerous county and local nonprofits.
Major recipients included the Baylor Research Institute ($600,000 total for clinical counseling and family services), Bell County ($540,000 for financial assistance and treatment courts), and Samaritan Center for Counseling ($400,000 for clinical counseling).
"Texas will always support the brave men and women who answered the call to serve our state and nation," Abbott said.
In May, the Texas Veterans Commission approved 190 grants totaling over $40.8 million to 160 organizations statewide. Since 2009, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 grants, supporting services ranging from emergency financial assistance to home modifications and legal services.
