California's Department of Justice announced an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that resulted in one death on Aug. 27 in Lathrop, according to Attorney General Rob Bonta. The incident occurred at approximately 5:34 PM and involved the Lathrop Police Department.

The Department of Justice's California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated the investigation in accordance with Assembly Bill 1506, which mandates state review of certain police shootings. Upon completion, the investigation will be referred to the department's Special Prosecutions Section for independent review.
