Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced Wednesday that all drought advisories have been removed across the state, leaving all eight counties without formal drought declarations.
In June, the governor had declared a Stage 2 drought advisory—the second-highest level under the state's drought response plan—for Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties. The declaration came in response to decreased precipitation, significantly low streamflow in water bodies, and increased wildfire danger.
Recent rainfall has brought relief to the state, the governor said. The Connecticut Interagency Drought Workgroup, which meets regularly to monitor drought conditions and advise the governor, recommended the removal of all remaining drought advisories.
A Stage 2 advisory is the second of five levels under the Connecticut Drought Advisory Preparedness and Response Plan, with Stage 1 being the lowest level of concern and Stage 5 the most extreme.
