San Mateo County will open a new Human Services Agency location on September 14, 2026, at Fashion Island in San Mateo, consolidating county programs that serve families, job seekers, seniors, people with disabilities and other residents.
The county-owned facility at 1500 Fashion Island Blvd. brings together 354 employees from Employment Services, Economic Self-Sufficiency, and Children and Family Services divisions. The agency expects to serve approximately 165 clients in-person each day and approximately 700 clients by phone.
The facility offers benefits eligibility services and a full-service resource center in an accessible setting with nearby highways and everyday amenities. The location is designed to help residents access assistance with food, health coverage, employment, family support and other essential services.
"The people who come here are our neighbors, parents, seniors, people with disabilities and workers. Many have lived in San Mateo County for decades and were doing fine until something unexpected happened, such as a job loss, illness, family crisis or rising cost of living," said Claire Cunningham, Director of the Human Services Agency. "When that moment comes, people need somewhere to go for help."
The move is part of a multiyear county effort to reduce reliance on leased space. After the Harbor Campus in Belmont was sold in 2021, the Human Services Agency and other county departments faced substantially higher leasing costs.
