Oregon's Department of Fish and Wildlife is reopening 15 Access and Habitat private land areas in northeast Oregon, effective August 29, after they were closed due to wildfire concerns.
Improved conditions including cooler temperatures, higher humidity levels and reduced fire activity support the reopening, the agency said. The reopened areas include M.R. King Ranches, Troy Ranches, Iron Mountain, Virtue Flat, Foster Ranch, Glass Hill, Owsley Canyon, Bear Creek, Carman Ranch, Harshfield Ranch, Divide Ridge, Heppner Regulated Hunt Area, Social Ridge, Four Mile and Bunker Hill.
Upland Cooperative Access Program lands that allow year-round access also will reopen. Hunters should continue to use caution, as fire danger remains elevated in many parts of the state and conditions can change quickly. Hunters are reminded to review local fire restrictions and carry firefighting equipment including a shovel and adequate water.
Three southwest Oregon access areas—Kueny, Alvord and Pine Creek—remain temporarily closed to the public due to extreme fire danger.
