Texas announced a Skills Development Fund grant of $489,624 to Lamar State College Orange for customized workforce training in partnership with Arlanxeo, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and Indorama Ventures.
The training will prepare 241 new and current workers for high-demand positions including fire and safety specialists, nurses, machinists, chemical engineers, and lab technicians.
The Skills Development Fund is Texas's workforce training grant program that assists businesses in upskilling their workforce through partnerships with public community and technical colleges. Since its inception in 1996, the program has provided training opportunities through partnerships with more than 5,000 employers to support the creation or upgrade of over 446,000 jobs throughout Texas.
