The Justice Department filed a settlement requiring KKR & Co. GP LLC to pay a $250 million civil penalty for repeatedly violating federal antitrust review requirements, according to court documents filed on August 26, 2026.

The settlement resolves allegations that KKR evaded antitrust scrutiny for at least 16 separate transactions by failing to comply with the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 (HSR Act), which requires companies to notify federal regulators and wait for clearance before completing certain large mergers and acquisitions.

The $250 million penalty is described by the Justice Department as a record settlement for violations of the premerger review process.
