The Maricopa Association of Governments has moved its annual crossing guard training to an online platform, and participation has more than doubled. In 2025, 150 people completed the in-person training. So far in 2026, nearly 400 have completed the online version.
The online platform offers consistent instruction throughout the year with updated training videos and a revised manual. The training includes approximately 45 minutes of video content and is available in both English and Spanish. Participants enter their name, email and school or district, then receive a confirmation email they can forward to their supervisor as a record of training completion.
The Maricopa Association of Governments, a regional planning agency representing 28 cities and towns, three Native nations, Maricopa and Pinal counties, and the Arizona Department of Transportation, has provided crossing guard training since the early 2000s.
