Gov. Greg Abbott announced a 10-year transportation plan with a total projected investment of $138 billion, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The Texas Transportation Commission approved the 2027 Unified Transportation Program in August. It includes $95 billion in projected funding from existing state and federal revenue sources, plus an additional $43 billion in development and routine maintenance.
The plan aims to improve safety, reduce congestion, enhance connectivity and preserve existing roadways, TxDOT said. Many of the projects focus on locations identified on Texas' 100 Most Congested Roadways list. The program also includes public transportation, maritime, aviation, rail, freight, and bicycle and pedestrian connectivity.
The state's Clear Lanes congestion-relief projects will receive increased funding. Since 2015, the state has invested $90.6 billion in completed, under-construction and planned non-tolled projects.
"This 10-year plan reflects the scale and complexity of meeting Texas' transportation needs in one of the fastest-growing states in the nation," said Marc Williams, TxDOT Executive Director. "It is focused on practical outcomes—improving safety, preserving the system we have, and supporting reliable movement for people and goods."
