Todd Parfitt, director of Wyoming's Department of Environmental Quality, is retiring October 1 after 32 years of public service and more than 14 years leading the agency, Governor Mark Gordon announced.
Appointed director in 2012, Parfitt guided the department through major initiatives affecting Wyoming's air, land, and water resources. Under his leadership, the agency strengthened environmental programs, expanded state regulatory authority, and modernized public-facing systems.
"Through all that time, Todd has been a steady, thoughtful, and highly respected leader," Gordon said. "His commitment to Wyoming's environment and natural resources, along with his ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, has strengthened the state's environmental protections while supporting responsible economic development."
Parfitt began his career at the agency in 1992 and served in multiple leadership roles before becoming director. His tenure was marked by collaboration, scientific rigor, and balancing environmental protection with Wyoming's economic vitality.
Deputy Director Nancy Vehr said: "Todd's vision and dedication have shaped DEQ's modern identity. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, innovation, and service to the people of Wyoming."
