Virginia's governor has ordered flags at state and local buildings and grounds throughout the Commonwealth to be lowered to half-staff on August 25 to honor Dolly Parton, country music icon.
The flags will be lowered at 6 p.m. ET and remain at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, according to the governor's office.
The order acknowledges Parton's extraordinary contributions to music and culture, as well as her work with the Imagination Library. "Through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, she has helped foster a lifelong love of reading among our youngest Virginians. Her generosity has expanded opportunity for countless children and strengthened communities across the Commonwealth," the statement said.
