The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced Chris Miller as director of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, a federal program that works to expand capital access in economically disadvantaged communities.

Miller comes to the position from Three Roots Capital, a certified community development financial institution in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he managed financial and administrative operations and provided business clients with financial planning assistance.

He brings 20 years of experience in community development finance and small business capital access. Before Three Roots Capital, Miller managed a $150 million commercial loan portfolio with small business and middle market exposure. He previously worked as an associate for approximately $50 million in equity funds focused on early-stage and growth-stage investments in southern and central Appalachia.

"Chris comes to the CDFI Fund with a strong connection to the CDFI industry and understands what CDFIs need to help generate growth and opportunity in economically disadvantaged communities," said Alexandria Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community and Economic Development.

Miller holds an MBA with a concentration in entrepreneurship and financial management from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's degree from the University of North Alabama.
