The Oklahoma Insurance Department is reviewing internal State Farm documents released in Comanche County District Court litigation as part of its ongoing examination of insurance claims practices, according to Commissioner Glen Mulready.
The documents relate to State Farm's handling of wind and hail claims. The Oklahoma Insurance Department has been conducting an independent investigation into insurance industry practices for several years, including the adjustment and payment of homeowners' claims following severe wind and hail events.
"The recent release of these documents is significant and warrants our careful attention," Mulready said in a statement. "However, it is important that we allow the facts to speak for themselves."
The Oklahoma Insurance Department has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office that provides a framework for confidential sharing of information between the offices as their respective investigations and enforcement responsibilities develop.
