U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 1,328 people during a two-week enforcement operation in Virginia and Maryland from August 1 to August 14, the Department of Homeland Security said.

Operation Safe Community – Washington, D.C. targeted individuals with criminal histories. According to the agency, nearly 400 of those arrested had prior convictions or charges including sexual battery, kidnapping, driving while intoxicated, hit-and-run, identity theft, robbery, murder, attempted murder, and rape.

ICE officers also identified and arrested members of transnational criminal organizations including MS-13, 18th Street Gang, and Tren de Aragua.

The operation followed a similar enforcement effort in Georgia in July, when ICE arrested more than 1,200 people during Operation Safe Community – Atlanta.
