Texas led the nation in job creation between July 2025 and July 2026, adding 165,600 nonfarm jobs, according to data cited by State Comptroller Don Huffines.
The state's workforce grew 1.2% during the period, outpacing the national annual job growth rate by a full percentage point.
Private Education and Health Services led July job gains with 5,900 new positions, followed by Professional and Business Services at 3,600 and Leisure and Hospitality at 3,400. Financial Activities recorded the largest decline with 5,100 job losses, while Construction fell by 3,400.
Texas reached 14,468,000 total nonfarm positions in July, with a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.5%.
