The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested five immigrants previously convicted of serious crimes including murder and fentanyl trafficking, according to a Department of Homeland Security statement.
Among those arrested were Jose Avelar-Velasquez, convicted of murder in Riverhead, New York; Noel Escarsega-Orquiz, convicted of second-degree murder in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Abdoulaye Doucoure, convicted of third-degree murder in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the agency said.
Two others faced drug and smuggling-related charges: Jorge Emigdio Ortiz-Barrios was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Felico Cleare was convicted of bringing aliens to the United States for private financial gain in the Southern District of Florida.
