A woman was arrested in Miami on August 16 after authorities responded to an intentional fire in a home, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Meliza Campos-Sanchez was charged with two counts of child abuse and cruelty, and with arson.

Authorities discovered videos posted to Campos-Sanchez's social media account showing her pouring melted wax onto herself and onto one of her daughters. Another video showed her lighting articles of clothing on fire in her kitchen.

She was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation before being booked into jail. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer with the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center the day after her arrest.

Campos-Sanchez entered the United States illegally through Florida in May 2022, according to federal immigration authorities.
