Alaska released a revised Healthy Alaskans 2030 State Health Assessment on August 21, the first major update to the comprehensive health evaluation since it was originally published in 2019. The Alaska Department of Health and Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium jointly produced the assessment.
The updated assessment reflects changes in Alaska's health landscape over the past five years, including impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, drug overdose trends, climate-related health effects, workforce challenges, and shifting demographics.
The assessment serves as the foundation for the 2030 State Health Improvement Plan, which tracks progress toward meeting identified health priorities through the end of the decade. The revised version will inform a 2026 update to that plan.
Alaska's state health improvement plan is distinctive as the only one in the country led through a state-Tribal partnership, according to the agencies.
