The Marin County Open Space District is set to vote on a land donation that would complete a long-planned conservation effort in the county. The Board is scheduled to meet on August 25 to consider accepting a 6.8-acre parcel known as Sky Ranch Knoll.
The property would be added to the existing Bald Hill Open Space Preserve and managed as part of the public lands system. Located one mile west of downtown San Anselmo and one mile south of downtown Fairfax, the parcel represents the sixth and final piece of land envisioned for conservation within the preserve.
Adding Sky Ranch Knoll would expand public trail access by approximately a quarter-mile and offer new viewpoints toward Mount Tamalpais and Marin Water woodlands to the south and toward San Pablo Bay to the east, according to the county.
The donation comes from the nonprofit Marin Open Space Trust, which is also providing $100,000 to support land stewardship. If the Board approves the transaction, escrow is expected to close in September.
The approval would follow a similar hilltop donation approved last month at the nearby King Mountain Open Space Preserve. "Sky Ranch Knoll is the final piece of a conservation vision that has been decades in the making," said Supervisor Brian Colbert, who represents the area.
