The Trump administration announced $4.2 million in funding for West Virginia to expand medical transportation capacity and remove barriers to healthcare access, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The funding supports the expansion of the Rural Health Link initiative, which will increase transportation options and geographic coverage for patients across the state, CMS said.
West Virginia received a total of approximately $199 million through the Rural Health Transformation Program in fiscal year 2026. The program, funded through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, allocated $50 billion over five years nationally to help states transform healthcare delivery.
In addition to the transportation funding, West Virginia announced nearly $167 million in programming, including a $14 million initiative for expanded virtual care and remote patient monitoring to help manage chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, and $10.5 million in "Health to Prosperity" workforce grants aimed at addressing physical health conditions and substance use disorder in the healthcare workforce.
