Arizona is offering three new specialty license plates established by state law: Italian American Heritage, Kidney Disease Awareness, and Suicide Prevention. With these additions, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division now offers 107 specialty license plates.
Most specialty plates cost $25 each year. Of that amount, $17 goes to a designated charity or nonprofit group. During the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2026, sales of specialty plates contributed over $15.8 million for various causes and charities.
The National Italian American Foundation will receive $17 from each Italian American Heritage plate sold to fund scholarships, grants, and heritage travel opportunities. The National Kidney Foundation of Arizona will receive funds from Kidney Disease Awareness plate sales to cover patient assistance programs, public education, and advocacy efforts. Each Suicide Prevention plate sold provides $17 to support mental health and crisis services, with assistance available 24/7 by calling or texting 988.
Specialty plates have been authorized by the Arizona Legislature since 1989. Plate designs complete a review by ADOT and law enforcement. Personalization can be added for an additional $25 per year. In addition to the three new plates, the University of Phoenix and Channel 8 PBS plates have been redesigned and will also be offered in a motorcycle format. The Channel 8 PBS plate is being renamed Arizona PBS.
